We started decorating for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving, and somewhere along the way we decided to rearrange the living room. The decorating is almost done, but the house is definitely in hot mess mode with fall decor piled on the stairs to be put away and boxes and bins waiting to be returned to the garage. I'll be taking more photos of our holiday decorations once I get everything cleaned up, but I get so excited about Christmas decor that I couldn't help but share some sneak peeks ... View the Post

Rooftop Retreat: Week 3
It's the half way point of the One Room Challenge and it's about time I start making some real progress on our rooftop deck! Fortunately last week's blizzard conditions have passed and the 10-day forecast shows mostly sunny, moderate temperature days. Let me catch you up quickly on what we are up to! Our home is built on three levels with a rooftop deck off of our master bedroom. We had grand visions of relaxing evenings on this deck back when we bought our house more than a ... View the Post
{featured} DIY Laundry Countertop & Shelving for Under $65
Hi friends! I am blogging over at Pretty Well Organized this morning, sharing all of the DIY details on how we created a countertop and shelving in our laundry room for under $65! When we first moved in to our home, I really wanted to install a Formica countertop in our laundry closet with cabinets above, but with all of the other new expenses - including the cost of a brand new washer and dryer - there just wasn't any extra money in the budget. Nonetheless, I still needed to find a way to ... View the Post
How to Organize Cricut Supplies
Did anyone manage to snag a Cricut during the crazy Amazon Prime Day sale on Tuesday?! They sold out so fast, and I can see why. The Cricut electronic cutter is my favorite crafting, decor, and organizing tool for a reason - it can do ANYTHING! Ok, maybe not anything... but darn close! I use my Cricut all the time, and the more I use it the more supplies I acquire to go with it, and the more supplies I have, the more I have to store... I think you see where this is going. An organizing ... View the Post
Rooftop Retreat: Week 5 {One Room Challenge}
UPDATE: The Rooftop Deck Makeover is COMPLETE! See the finished space here! I mentioned a few weeks ago that in addition to turning our rooftop deck into an outdoor living room, I also want to use the space as an outdoor movie theater. Today I want to share a few more details about those plans. Remember that big, blank white stucco wall on the deck? This wall has always provided a design challenge in my mind. My goal is to make this wall feel like a focal point by hanging a ... View the Post

Things are getting real, today! I'm talking about what it REALLY looks like to live with kids and all their toys! And you know what, that's absolutely true! My boys are just like all other kids...they leave a trail of toys and disaster everywhere they go. But thanks to some simple organization, I can take any room in ... View the Post

{one room challenge} Ironing Out the Kinks: Laundry Room Week 4 Update
Welcome back to another week of our One Room Challenge laundry/linen closet makeover. We're at week 4 of this 6 week challenge, and we've come to the point in the process where we're checking some of the more labor intensive items off of the list, but everything is taking a little longer than I'd like and there's a lot of problem solving and adapting along the way. I call this the "ironing out the kinks" week. Before I show you what we accomplished this week, let me remind that our ... View the Post
{home tour} Modern Powder Room
The home tour continues, and this week I'm giving you peek into our main floor powder room. {You can also catch up on previous home tour posts} This half bathroom is located on our main floor, just off of our kitchen and around the corner from our entry. It's a small room, so I can't really show you photos from different angles, but I will show you the before and after, and then walk you through some of the details and the changes we've made to this little room. When we bought ... View the Post
{decorating with style} From Awkward Inset to Floating Photo Shelves
When we purchased our home, one of my first decorating challenges was figuring out what to do with the 5 inch deep inset in the corner of our living room. I originally tried tucking a console table in the nook, but it just looked awkward. So I sat and stared at the space for a while until it hit me - floating photo shelves! Five inches really isn't deep enough for much - but it turns out to be the perfect depth for tabletop picture frames. A family friend installed the shelves ... View the Post
Water Bottle Storage
Do you ever flinch as you open one of your kitchen cabinets because you expect something to come tumbling out at your face? That was me with the cabinet where we store our water bottles. Once upon a time, I had organized the cabinet using baskets. That worked well when my boys were using mostly sippy cups, but as we transitioned to water bottles that are bigger around that the sippy cups, they no longer fit in the baskets very well, and we ended up with a scary situation like this... I ... View the Post
