It's been mission paint organization around our house lately, and last week I showed you how we transferred all of our latex paint out of their rusting cans and into screw top plastic canisters with labels on top {read all about that here}. On those labels I noted the paint brand, paint color, and sheen, but I also wanted a way to track other details, like the paint color code and any other special instructions. And while I had all the paint cans open, it seemed like the perfect ... View the Post
{organizing with style} Project Paint Storage and a Free Printable
To say we have a lot of latex paint might be an understatement! When we bought our home, the builder left us a touch up kit with 2 quarts of each color of paint used throughout the house (including the original wall colors, the trim, ceilings, and closet interior paints). Additionally, we have since repainted many of the rooms in the house, resulting in a lot more leftover paint (and in the case of the ombre stripes in the nursery we used five different colors). Until a few weeks ... View the Post
{diy with style} Making Space for Storage in a Small Utility Room
When we bought our house five years ago, the basement was already finished. On the upside, it's definitely a nice perk to have a fully finished space that greatly adds to the livable square footage of our house, however, on the downside, that means that there is almost no storage space in the basement.{Although the basement does have an elevator closet - "what's that?" you ask. You can read about one here}. Our utility room in the basement is very small, and thanks to some pipes running ... View the Post
{diy with style} Ding Dong! What Took So Long?
For five years we've been unable to hear our doorbell throughout most of our narrow, but tall house. The doorbell chime is located on the first floor, and could really only be heard on the first and second floors. This meant that we couldn't hear the doorbell in the basement family room/playroom where we spend most of our time, nor could we hear it in our master bedroom on the third floor. We were constantly telling family to call when they arrived, and leaving notes on the front door for the ... View the Post
{Last Chance to Vote} Apartment Therapy’s “Room for Color” Contest
As I mentioned yesterday, a while back I entered the Apartment Therapy "Room for Color" contest by submitting photos of Beckett's ombre striped nursery. And earlier this week I learned that my submission made it through the "Editor's Phase" and has now been posted on the contest website for the first round of voting. Thanks to everyone who helped by voting yesterday. I'm now in the TOP 10 in my division, but I need to move up to the top 5 to make it to the judging round! Can ... View the Post
{VOTE FOR ME} Apartment Therapy’s “Room for Color” Contest
Holy cow! A couple of weeks ago I entered the Apartment Therapy "Room for Color" contest by submitting photos of Beckett's ombre striped nursery. I just discovered tonight that my submission made it through the "Editor's Phase" and has now been posted on the contest website for the first round of voting. This is awesome news, BUT the voting ends on Friday at noon, so I NEED YOUR HELP! Please click here to go to my contest page, scroll down below the photos and room ... View the Post
Mood Board: Planes, Trains and Automobiles
As you probably know by now, we are in the process of deciding how to decorate Beckett's big boy room. Last week I shared two mood boards with different design concepts for a room that Beckett can grow into at least through early elementary school. Click to see the mood boards for the Beach Bum Big Boy Room and the Vintage Preppy Little Man's Lounge. Today's mood board, which I call Planes, Trains & Automobiles, is a more traditional theme for a young boy. While I tend to ... View the Post
{decorating with style} Mood Board: Vintage Preppy Little Man’s Lounge
UPDATE: This mood board was the winner, and the room is now complete. Tour the completed Vintage Preppy Little Man's Lounge. To quickly bring you up to speed, we are in the process of deciding how to decorate Beckett's big boy room - a room he will move in to right around the time he turns two years old, and which will allow Cooper to then move into the nursery. We have lots of ideas for Beckett's room, so I am compiling a few different mood boards to help us make the decision. I ... View the Post
Mood Board: Beach Bum Big Boy Room
I have so many ideas for Beckett's big boy room that I really don't know how we're going to decide which direction to go with it. The main goal is to put together a room that Beckett will enjoy now and for at least five years to come. Since we want this room to take him through early elementary school, if not longer, I am working hard to stay away from anything with too much of a toddler feel that he'll outgrow in just a couple of years {so while his current obsession is Elmo and all ... {style inspiration} Houzz Kids
I think it's a safe bet that most of you are familiar with Houzz - an online encyclopedia of gorgeous and inspirational home design photos. I've been browsing Houzz online and via my iPad app for a couple of years now, but it was just last week that it came to my attention that there is a separate app called Houzz Kids. Maybe I am late to the party and you all already know about Houzz Kids, but I was pretty excited to learn about it! After browsing the app over the weekend, it ... View the Post
{shopping for style} Itsy Bitsy
As we decide how to design Beckett's new room, I've been doing a lot of shopping lately, or more accurately, a lot of online browsing and flipping through tons of catalogs. So I can't tell you how excited I was to get a new catalog in the mail just yesterday announcing the launch of a brand-spankin'-new kids furniture and decor line called Itsy Bitsy from the folks over at Home Decorators Collection. If you don't already know about Home Decorators Collection, you're going to want to ... View the Post
{shopping for style} In Search of a Room Divider
Thanks for stopping by today because I need your input! Yesterday I showed you our "temporary" exercise room - temporary in that, when we set the room up, we knew it would someday be converted into a kid's bedroom. And now that day is almost here. The exercise room will soon become Beckett's "big boy" room, leaving the question of what to do with our two large pieces of workout equipment - the elliptical machine and our stationary bike. I've always envisioned that ... View the Post
