I have this thing with catalogs. I love flipping through them as soon as they hit my mailbox, and sticking little tabs on all the pages that inspire me. It’s tempting to want pretty new stuff every season, but my wallet obviously doesn’t agree.
Recently I spotted a gorgeous collection of white and gold “thankful” tableware at Crate and Barrel {affiliate link} and thought, maybe I need special plates just for Thanksgiving… but nope, I don’t. I don’t have the money or the space for a set of plates to use just once a year.
But what about one new set of inexpensive glass salad plates that I could re-style to create unique place settings for any season for just a few dollars and in just a few minutes? Now that is an idea my wallet will support!
Remembering a cool idea that I had seen at a conference I attended back in the spring, I realized that a set of clear glass plates and some scrapbook paper was all I needed to create a new look for our table season after season.
I bought an inexpensive set of a dozen glass salad plates {affiliate link} and picked up a pad of 6″ square scrapbook paper in the dollar section at Target.
I traced the center of one of the plates onto the back of a piece of scrapbook paper.
I cut along the pencil line, and then used that circle as a template to trace and cut more circles from the coordinating papers.
I stacked the glass plates on top of the scrapbook paper circles, and that’s it! A totally new look for my Thanksgiving table. Couldn’t be simpler right?
It will be so easy to update this look with new paper for each season, and the place setting possibilities are endless. Pretty wrapping paper for Christmas. Book pages for a book club dinner. Photos for a family birthday party. And all I have to store is one small stack of glass plates. That’s what I call winning at budget decor!
